As the fight for the attention of young networkers intensifies, today we preview data from our new infographic on the Social Media Landscape (available for clients here) to look at the age profile of one service that has consistently managed to maintain a young following: Instagram.

Currently, the photo-sharing service has one of the youngest user bases of any of the major services we track. Almost two-thirds of adult Instagrammers are under the age of 35, with as many as 35% coming from the 16-24 age bracket.

That means Instagram’s demographics are comparable to Snapchat, especially with Snapchat now starting to catch on with older age groups. Little wonder, then, that Instagram has chosen to adopt some of Snapchat’s best features to keep its young users engaged.
