As the industry waits for Facebook’s latest results, today’s charts highlights the continuing growth of the official Facebook app over recent years.
Outside China, almost 2 in 3 online adults are now engaging with the app each month (around double the figure we saw back in early 2013). The rise of smartphones has been a key driving force here; with “filling up spare time” being one of the most popular reasons for using social media, it’s clear that many users are dipping in and out of the service throughout the day.
Of all the social networks we track, Facebook in fact continues to score one of the best results for people using it multiple times per day. So, even if some users are engaging in less personal sharing and are instead reading / sharing articles and other content, it’s clear that Zuckerberg & Co.’s app is still grabbing a serious amount of time and attention each day.
