Today we turn our attention to the numbers visiting YouTube.

Using data from our new GWI Entertainment report (download a free summary here), it’s patently clear that PCs/laptops are still the dominant devices in terms of global traffic. Indeed, 61% of internet users aged 16-64 said that they had visited YouTube via a PC or laptop during Q2 2014 – a figure which underlines the platform’s impressive global reach.

Nevertheless, the upward trend for mobiles is plain to see; over a third (36%) of internet users are now visiting YouTube via their smartphones, up from just over a quarter (27%) in 2012.

As with other behaviors, the numbers for tablets are holding steady – indicating that one of the biggest challenges for this device will be to counter the rise of mobiles as the favored content-consumption tool.
