As we discuss in our new GWI Social report (you can download a free summary here), usage of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Proxy Servers has now become mainstream.
One of the biggest motivations for using them is to access social networks which are restricted in one’s own country. Globally, 44% of VPN users say they are doing this.
At a country level, though, the figure can climb much higher – led by Vietnam at 71%. It’s also significant in places like China (58%) and Turkey (52%), showing just how difficult it has become to place official restrictions on social platforms.
