To mark the release of our new GWI Device report tomorrow, we start the week by taking a look at the devices people are using to access the internet.

According to our latest data, 2014 has heralded a significant landmark for the smartphone: for the first time, more than two thirds of internet users are going online via mobiles. Over 1 billion people are now connecting in this way across GWI’s 32 markets, with an increase of nearly 170 million users over the last year.

Tablets remain in the ascendancy too: 30% of adults are using them to go online – up from 22% a year ago. That’s nearly 150 million extra people over the last 12 months.
