With Facebook hitting its 12th birthday and continuing to beat expectations with its impressive earnings results last week, today’s Chart of the Day takes a look at the network’s dominance within the social landscape.

Globally, it’s an impressive 81% of online adults who have a Facebook account – a trend that is especially pronounced among younger age groups. What’s also striking here is just how dominant Facebook is across the world; Facebook membership is near universal in LatAm (94%), with all other regions posting figures of 75%+.

These figures are pretty impressive for a site as old and established as Facebook and shows its ability to stay relevant in spite of some intense competition. And with growth coming mostly from fast-growth markets (where internet populations continue to increase rapidly), Facebook’s grip on the social media landscape is showing no signs of slipping.
