For Wednesday’s blog, we conclude our preview of GWI’s new M-Commerce Insight Report by looking at current engagement levels by region (you can get a free summary of this report here).
Emerging markets are leading the move to mobile commerce – with rates in APAC twice those found in Europe. In China alone, more than half of internet users are regularly shopping online using a mobile. Each month, 65% of Chinese internet users are in fact visiting shopping portal Taobao via a mobile, while 4 in 10 say they are using a shopping app.
But while European and North American online populations post relatively low figures for m-commerce engagement, certain demographics in these regions are much more likely to be turning to their mobiles to shop online. A quarter of 16-24s in North America are doing this, for example, as are 3 in 10 from this age group in the UK. It’s also a third of 25-34s in Germany, as well as 30% in the USA, Ireland and the UK, who are m-shoppers.
