6 in 10 smartphone owners say they intend to upgrade their existing handset over the next year. And while this intention does not guarantee purchase, it’s significant that figures are high across all age breaks and regions.

Despite the financial constraints which impact 16-24s’ spending power, it’s a healthy 58% of smartphone owners from this group who say they are planning to upgrade in the next 12 months. Close to half of 55-64s say the same.

Regions with fast-growth markets are particularly key to growth of smartphone sales for mobile manufacturers – for example, 64% of smartphone owners in APAC are looking to upgrade, with China and India sitting at 69% for this figure.
