Continuing our preview of the new GWI Social report (download a free summary here), today we look at the age profile of some of the biggest messaging apps tracked by GWI.

Among the five major services profiled in our chart, Snapchat has by far the youngest audience; a significant 83% of its users are under 35 (by way of comparison, the equivalent figures on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are 61% and 65%). Little wonder that Evan Spiegel’s app continues to attract so much interest, then, especially with its recent claim to be hosting as many video views each day as Facebook.

Meanwhile, Skype has a much older audience – a result, in part, of it being popular as a family communication tool.
