With Facebook bringing its fast-loading ‘Instant Articles’ to Asia, today’s Chart of the Day looks at how many Facebookers are reading news articles on the platform.

For 48% of the site’s active users, keeping up-to-date on the news is a key motivation for using social networks (a figure which rises beyond the 50% mark in APAC). As a result, it’s not surprising to see a similar number of Facebookers (46%) saying that they read news articles on the site.

Although Instant Articles has already launched in many Western markets, it’s the sheer size of the online population in APAC which makes this a particularly key territory for the new feature – especially as Facebookers in this region say they spend close to an hour each day reading online press. That Instant Articles will find an instant audience can be in little doubt.
