Our midweek post focuses on the rise of entertainment-related apps – one of the trends we discuss in more detail inside our new GWI Entertainment report, (a free summary of which is available here).

Music and entertainment apps are now being used by a third of internet users each month, while about 1 in 8 are engaging with TV apps. All of these categories have seen uplifts since 2012 and, in terms of demographics, it’s perhaps not surprising that 16-24s are the most likely of all to be engaging.

YouTube is an obvious beneficiary of this trend; 3 in 10 online adults used its app last month. What’s more, our data shows that 6 in 10 of the service’s total audience now visit via mobile at least some of the time (up from 40% in 2012).
