With Pandora announcing turbulent financial results in the wake of increasing competition in the music streaming market, our midweek Chart of the Day examines why the company should consider expanding abroad.
As our chart shows, Pandora commands a strong lead in the US music streaming market – a quarter of America’s online adults say they used the service last month, putting it some distance ahead of Spotify on 17%. That also means it scores better figures than even iTunes.
What’s more, while over a third of 16-34s in the US fall within Pandora’s user base, it’s still a quarter of 35-44s who are using the service too – giving it a broad demographic spread.
Where Pandora loses out is in terms of global coverage; with Spotify now available in 58 markets, Pandora will need to branch out too if it wants to avoid being eclipsed.
